On average, most companies in France undergo an inspection by the French Social Security authorities (URSSAF) every 3 years. The aim of this inspection is to ensure that the company has been properly paying any social security charges which are due.
DO
> Prepare the documentation requested by the URSSAF Inspector as soon as you receive the inspection notification letter and ensure the right person will be available to welcome the URSSAF Inspector on the day. You will be given at least 30 days’ notice. You should also inform your chartered accountant and usual counsel as soon as possible so that they can assist you
> Welcome the URSSAF Inspector (offering a cup of coffee is always appreciated!) and set aside a room for him/her to work in which copies of all the documentation will have been prepared
> Prepare your interview with the URSSAF Inspector by trying to anticipate any questions he/she may have
DON'T
> Refuse the URSSAF Inspector access to the company premises and/or documentation and/or employees. This is a criminal offence with fines which can go up to 750,000€
> Forget to respond to the URSSAF Inspector’s observation letter within 30 days of receipt
> Forget to initiate action before the Amicable Resolution Commission within 2 months of receiving the URSSAF Inspector’s formal notice if you want to challenge the inspection results
